Li, S.J., & Zhao, H.B. 1997 [Study on selection of geographical provenances of Pinus tabulaeformis resistant to Matsucoccus matsumurae Kuwana.]. Scientia Silvae Sinicae 33(4): 307-320.

Notes: A provenance trial of Pinus tabulaeformis resistant to Matsucoccus matsumurae was carried out in Liaoyang and Benxi, Liaoning, China (all locations where the pest has occurred), using 18 provenances planted in 5 replicates in 1981 and 1982, and 28 provenances planted in 6 replicates in 1985; the provenences were from various provinces in China. Infestation by nymphs of M. matsumurae was recorded on 8- and 10-yr-old trees. Resistance to the scale insect varied significantly with provenance. Eight provenances from Zunhua, Huangling, Ningcheng, Chengde, Taishan, Qianxi, Huanglong and Suizhong were selected which had 86-100% resistance to the scale insect - at least 18% higher than that of other provenances. The selection of the 8 provenances was also based on their adaptability and growth characteristics.
