Abstract: Review of common control methods in this region, especially biological control; sampling methodologies and thresholds for pesticide treatment of the main insect pests have been worked out and pesticide selectivity has been studied; cultural practices contributing to insect pest control have been identified and biotechnical control methods, including the use of behavior-modifying chemicals and application of the sterile insect technique, are being developed; mealybugs and scale pests include Planococcus citri, Aonidiella aurantii, Lepidosaphes beckii and Saissetia oleae; parasitoids and predators associated with classical and natural biological control listed and region where they have been introduced or monitored.
