[Original title: ] Notes are given on the biology, morphology and distribution of 12 species of diaspidid scale insects that were found on fruit trees, ornamental plants and a few forest trees during a survey in 1983-84 on Rosaceae in Sicily; these species represented over two-thirds of the diaspidids described for the whole of Italy. Salicicola archangelskaiae, which is known in Turkestan (USSR) and Iraq, was recorded for the first time in Europe on medlar in Sicily. 12 species of Diaspididae are studied and their hosts are given.
