Notes: The progress made in the Africa-wide biological control project of the pseudococcid Phenacoccus manihoti and the tetranychids Mononychellus spp. on cassava is reported. Several species of natural enemies have been brought into Africa and one, the encyrtid parasite Epidinocarsis lopezi, has been particularly successful against P. manihoti. Test releases of exotic natural enemies were made in Nigeria in 1981-83, and in a total of 8 African countries in 1984. A training programme in biological control techniques for national programme scientists has been established.
