Notes: Abstract: In southern Africa, C. nigritus is a valuable biocontrol agent of red scale Aonidiella aurantii (Diaspididae) on citrus; Asterolecanium sp. on Dendrocalamus giganteus is an important alternative prey for C. nigritus in the field; C. bipustulatus is a new biocontrol agent for red scale in southern Africa targeted for regions in which C. nigritus has not been established; insectary cultures of the beetles are maintained on Aspidiotus nerii and released onto red scale and Asterolecanium sp. during field introductions aimed at establishment in new areas.
