Notes: Although it is a common practice for pineapple growers in Mauritius to exchange suckers amongst themselves, the spread of PMWaV-1 and -2 to new pineapple-growing areas may be due to the failure to properly control insect vectors during the confinement of people due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Careful selection of disease-free suckers and adoption of efficient vector control measures urgently need to be resumed to safeguard pineapple production in Mauritius from MWD.
