Notes: [Ph.D. Thesis] This dissertation is an English translation and critical edition of the work by Gonzalo Gomez de Cervantes. After repeating all the standard reasons proposed by encomenderos why the crown should reinstate the general and perpetual repartimiento (encomienda), he acutely and realistically described in detail the repartimiento of provisions and labor, a number of the political practices of the time, the mining and reduction of silver, and the cultivation and preparation of cochineal.
