González, R.H. 1989 . Insectos y acaros de importancia agricola y cuarentenaria en Chile. [Insects and mites of agricultural and quarantine importance in Chile.] Universidad de Chile Santiago 310 pp.

Notes: This book gives an account of the insects and mites of agricultural and quarantine importance in Chile. In the first chapter a discussion is presented of the situation with regard to agricultural pests in Chile, the factors responsible for establishment of the pests, origins and characteristics of agricultural pests in Chile, quarantine risks and interception and entry of exotic organisms. In chapter 2, quarantine of vegetables, pest quarantine and aspects of taxonomy and evaluation of pests are discussed. Chapter 3 is a descriptive catalogue of over 280 insect and mites species belonging to the orders Collembola, Orthoptera, Blattaria, Isoptera, Thysanoptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera and Acarina. It gives details of host plant range, distribution, economic importance and morphology to aid identification, and includes illustrations and photographs. Chapter 4 lists the agricultural pests of economic importance under their host plants. A glossary of scientificterms and an index to families, genera and species of insects and mites are also given. It is suggested that this book should be considered as an updated and corrected version of previous catalogues published in Chile.
