Gang, F.Z., & Liu, J. 2000 [Biological observations and control of Kuwanaspis howardi].. Journal of Bamboo Research 19(2): 78-80.

Notes: Kuwanaspis howardi is mainly a sucking pest of bamboo shoots of Phyllostachys praecox, P. dulcis, and other [?Phyllostachys] species in China. The paper gives a brief account of its biology, life cycle and control. Observations in [Zhejiang Province] have shown that there are two generations per year, with overwintering by the fertilized adult female. Effective control of the pest is achieved either by injection of omethoate (40%) at the rate of 1:10 in the bamboos chamber [culm] or by smearing on the surface of the bamboo. Some control can be achieved using ordinary washing-powder (1:200) puffed onto the bamboo straw.
