  • Notes: A new genus, Mapia n. gen., is introduced to accommodate two Mexican monophlebine species, one being new for science. The adult females have a sclerotized area on head, six pairs of abdominal spiracles, and a short triangular tube-like sclerotized anal opening, and they lack legs. There is no other named genus presenting these morphological features. The type species Mapia kraussi n. sp. is described and illustrated based on all instars of female postembryonic development, i.e. three immatures instars and the adult female. A second species, Cryptokermes mimosae Foldi, 1995, is transferred to the genus Mapia as Mapia mimosae (Foldi, 1995) n. comb., and the adult female is redescribed and illustrated. A key to genera of Cryptokermesini and a key to species of Mapia based on adult females are provided in French and in English
