Delabie, J.H.C., & Cazorla, I.M. 1991 Danos causados por Planococcus citri Risso (Homoptera, Pseudococcidae) na produção do cacaueiro. [Damage caused by Planococcus citri Risso (Homoptera, Pseudococcidae) to the production of cocoa tree.]. Agrotrópico 3(1): 53-57.

Notes: The mealybug Planococcus citri is frequently associated with the ant Wasmannia auropunctata in the cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) plantations of the state of Bahia, Brazil. This association is injurious both to the crop and to harvesting because not only is the sap sucked by the coccids but also farm workers are driven away by the ants' aggressiveness. This paper evaluates the effects of the P. citri attack on cocoa pods. Infested pods are 0.7 cm shorter and 35.2 g lighter than uninfested ones, the husk contributing most to this loss in weight. The least affected part is the fruit pulp.
