Chen, Z.L. 1992 [A preliminary report on the damage and control of the cypress oyster-shell scale on red bayberry.]. Plant Protection 18: 3, 23-24.

Notes: Studies showed that the diaspidid Lepidopsaphes cupressi [Cornuaspis cupressi] caused serious damage, including mortality, of red bayberry [Myrica rubra]. In field trials, spring and autumn pruning effectively reduced pest population density. In laboratory tests during the 2nd 10 days of March, following the overwintering of the 2nd generation, malathion (dilution 1:800), dimethoate, omethoate and methamidophos (all at 1:1000) resulted in 98.6, 96.8, 92.6 and 94.8% control of female adults, resp. Diesel oil emulsion resulted in <50% control. Malathion and omethoate applied twice resulted in better nymph control before or after scale formation, followed by fenitrothion. Malathion and washing powder resulted in better control of female adults of the 2nd generation before overwintering.
