Britton, W.E. 1909 The San Jose scale and method of controlling it.. Bulletin of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station No. 165: 4 pp.

Notes: The San José scale appeared and caused much destruction of fruit trees in California thirty years ago. China is probably the country of origin. The history of distribution of this scale into Europe and the U.S. is reviewed. A brief field description is given of the female and male, as well as the damage caused to its fruit tree hosts, and biology. Natural enemies are not very effective in holding the scale in check in Connecticut, but two of the most important are discussed. Chemical control recommendations are given.
