Notes: [Presidential address, 61st Annual Meeting, American Association of Economic Entomologists.] The most important pest species in Florida include Chrysomphalus ficus and Lepidosaphes beckii. Previously, Aonidiella aurantii and Lepidosaphes beckii were listed as the most destructive. The most serious pests of citrus in California include Aonidiella aurantii, A. citrina, Coccus pseudomagnoliarum, Lepidosahes beckii, Pseudococcus gahani and Saissetia oleae. Coccus hesperidum and Parlatoria pergandii were previously identified as the most important California citrus pests. Biological control is discussed with Icerya purchasi, Pseudococcus gahani, P. longispinus and Saissetia oleae among the examples given. The history of plant quarantine, eradication, pest abatement, taxonomy, ecological investigations, integrated control and insect resistance to chemicals.
