Benfatto, D., & Carroccio, A. 1996 Cocciniglia rossa forte degli agrumi: quando intervenire? [Aonidiella aurantii on citrus: when to intervene?]. Informatore Agrario 52: 38, 73-76.

Notes: Studies were carried out in Sicily in 1995 to determine the best time to apply insecticides against the diaspidid Aonidiella aurantii on citrus by monitoring its flight period using pheromone traps and following the trend in the temperature. These data were used to give essential information on the biological cycle of the pest. A sum of about 650 day-degrees was necessary for the pest to complete one generation. The number of nymphs on the plants was greatest in late June-early July and late August-early September for each of the 2 generations, and these 2 periods (each of about 2-3 weeks) were identified as the best times to apply insecticides against the pest.
