Notes: Chrysomphalus dictyospermi (Morg.) has been largely replaced as a serious pest of Citrus in Morocco by the introduced Aonidiella aurantii (Mask.) [cf. RAE/A 55, 573]. Since it might become an alternative host for species of Aphytis that were about to be introduced for the control of A. aurantii [cf. 57, 396], its life-history and that of its parasites were studied in the field in 1964-66. At Marrakech, it had three generations a year, the hibernating population consisting mainly of adult females. In the Gharb region in 1965, the indigenous Aphelinid Aphytis chrysomphali (Merc.) parasitised up to 30% of the Coccids, but, because of seasonal fluctuations in its numbers, was not very effective in limiting the host population. In 1966, a few months after the introduction of A. lingnanensis Comp. and A. melinus DeBach, the levels of parasitism were higher. At Marrakech in 1965, Habrolepis aspidioti Comp. & Annecke (fanari Delucchi & Traboulsi), which parasitised up to 50% of the Coccids and had five generations a year, was present as well as A. chrysomphali. Its effectiveness in controlling the Coccid was limited because its numbers were kept down by the hyperparasites Marietta habrolepidis Ghesq. and Azotus chrysomphali Ghesq.
