Notes: After a survey of the distribution of the different scale insects in the whole of the Mediterranean area and the most characteristic damage caused by them, the influence of climate and natural enemies are studied on populations. Chemical control and biological control are discussed. Species discussed include Aonidiella aurantii, Aspidiotus hederae, Ceroplastes floridensis, C. sinensis, Chrysomphalus dictyospermi, C. ficus, Coccus hesperidum, Icerya purchasi, Lepidosaphes beckii, Parlatoria pergandei, P. ziziphi, Planococcus adonidum, P. citri and Saissetia oleae.
