Battaglia, D., & Di Leo, A. Rotundo, G., & Di Leo, A. 1994 Osservazioni sulla cocciniglia bianca del pesco e del gelso in Basilicata. [Observations on white scale insect of peach and mulberry in Basilicata.]. Informatore Agrario 50: 3, 77-80.
Notes: The phenology, natural enemies and chemical control of the diaspidid Pseudaulacaspis pentagona on peach and mulberry was studied in Basilicata, Italy, in 1987-89. The pest had 3 generations/year, overwintering in the fecund female stage. The aphelinid Encarsia berlesei was the most prevalent natural enemy, although the rate of parasitism rarely exceeded 18-20%. Another aphelinid, Aphytis proclia, was found only at coastal sites and the percentage of parasitism was very low (0.5-2.0%). Azotus perspeciosus was recorded parasitizing E. berlesei. The only predators recorded were larvae of the coccinellid Lindorus lophantae [Rhyzobius lophanthae]. White mineral oil was as effective as phosphamidon, quinalphos and chlorpyrifos-methyl against the 1st generation of P. pentagona. Males were captured in pheromone traps from mid-May/beginning of June until the end of November with 3 flight peaks.
