Balachowsky, A.S., & Matile-Ferrero, D. 1980 Un nouveau genre de Diaspidinae Afro-tropical, à bouclier familial géant (Homoptera, Coccoidea, Diaspididae).[Gynandraspis gabonensis, new genus new species tropical Diaspidinae with a giant familial shield (Homoptera, Coccoidea, Diaspididae).]. Revue Française d'Entomologie 2: 69-74.
Notes: Gynandraspis gabonensis gen. et. sp. nov. is described. It was collected on the western bank of the Ivindo river, Gaboon (Western Africa), under the leaves of an unidentified tree. G. gabonensis shelters numerous male puparia radially arranged under the scale of the female. The biological meaning of this aberrant giant family female shield is an enigma. (G. gabonensis is compared with Berlesaspis spinifera (Maskell, 1894).)
