Armitage, H.M. 1929 Timing field liberations of Cryptolaemus in the control of the citrophilus mealybug in the infested citrus orchards of southern California.. Journal of Economic Entomology 22(6): 910-915.

Notes: Forty million Cryptolaemus (a ladybird beetle, C. montrouzieri Muls.) are being produced annually in insectaries in southern California and liberated systematically, ten beetles per tree, over the several thousand acres of citrus in that area, infested with the citrophilus mealybug (Pseudococcus gahani Green), in the successful control of that pest. The seasonal development of the mealybug, temperatures affecting Cryptolaemus activity, avoidance of heavy rainfall, length of control period required, and the effect of other pest control operations are discussed.
