Alexandrakis, V., Neuenschwander, P., & Michelakis, S.E. 1977 Influence d'Aspidiotus nerii Bouché (Homoptera, Diaspididae) sur la production de l'olivier. [Influence of Aspidiotus nerii Bouché (Homoptera, Diaspididae) on olive production].. Fruits 32(6): 412-417.
Notes: In an experiment two insecticides and a summer oil were applied to olive trees at a concentration of 1% were applied in April and July. The resulting differences in the scale densities persisted up to harvest and thus allowed measurement of the impact of the scale densities on the quality and quantity of olives and oil as well as on the growth of trees. Fruits which were chosen from different levels of infestation on the same tree demonstrated that economic damage in this situation occurred only on those olives which were already infested by crawlers of the 2nd generation and were therefore heavily attacked by the 3rd generation produced on the same fruits (above 10 scales per fruit). On the other hand, high scale densities on leaves resulted in earlier leaf drop and reduced growth.
