Notes: High densities of P. pollini populations have been observed for some years in olive growing zones of Crete, causing economic problems today on olive culture of the Island. The insect is found mainly on olive buds at the axil of leaves or at the end of the annual vegetation. The presence of colonies of the scale at the base of buds prohibits their development resulting in the reduction of length of the annual growth; up to 8% with a respective reduction of the production up to 65%. Some cultivation techniques like pruning, fertilization, use of herbicides, etc. have as a result the animation of olive trees and reduced density of P. pollini populations.
