- Systematics: Subfamily Xanthophthalminae Ferris (Normark et al. 2025)
This genus is apparently allied to Protodiaspis (Cockerell, 1899n). Brown & McKenzie (1962) state that this genus is morphologically between Phoenicococcus and a typical armored scale. Normark, et al., 2019 concluded that Xanthophthalma was not a true diaspidid and they regarded this genus as a non-pupillarial member of Halimococcidae. However, in 2025, Normark, et al reconsidered its placement and treated Xanthophthalminae as a subfamily of Diaspididae.
- Structure: Cockerell (1899n) describes this genus as having a peculiar scale, an abdominal margin ending in rounded processes at the end of which are small bristles.
