Remarks
- Systematics: Slide-mounted adult female T. erythrinae can be differentiated from other species of Toumeyella by possessing the following combination of character states: (i) antennae each 5–7-segmented; (ii) posterior spiracular peritreme about as wide or wider than length of an anal plate; (iii) anal ring with 12–14 setae; (iv) anal plates each with 4 dorsal apical setae; (v) perivulvar pores each about same size as a spiracular pore; (vi) legs with all leg segments distinct; (vii) stigmatic clefts absent; stigmatic spines numbering 3 in each stigmatic area, with median spine longer than lateral spines; (viii) marginal setae sharply spinose, straight, slightly or strongly bent; (ix) sclerotic area around anal plates absent; and (x) preopercular pores, heavily sclerotized and highly convex. This species has only been recorded on Erythrina spp. in Mexico; it is large, with body up to 2.1 cm long. (Kondo & Garonna, 2022)
- Structure: Adult female about 0.35–1.20 cm long, largest specimens up to 2.1 cm long; body oval to elongate oval, becoming highly convex at maturity, gall-like, whitish, cream to yellow ochre, occasionally with an orange tinge; shiny, with small black or brown spots scattered over dorsum; derm of a coriaceous texture, covered by a thin waxy layer; area around anal plates brown or dark brown. Young specimens subcircular, greenish-ochre, smooth. Body often coated with reddish, sticky honeydew. Slide-mounted adult female body subcircular or elongate oval, 3.3–21.0 mm long, 2.8–20.0 mm wide; anal cleft about 1/5 of body length. Dorsal setae sharply spinose, straight or slightly bent, scattered over dorsum, setae around body margin shorter. Dorsal microducts present, bilocular, thick rimmed, each with a long ductule, numerous, scattered throughout dorsum. (Kondo & Garonna, 2022)
- Biology: This soft scale is a bisexual species, developing one annual generation (Kondo & Williams, 2003a).
- Economic Importance: Reported by Kondo & Williams (2003a) to cause severe damage to Erythrina trees and shrubs in Mexico.
- General Remarks: Description and illustration of adult female and first-instar nymph by Kondo & Williams (2003a).
