Remarks
- Systematics: Gullan & Sjaarda (2001) found that Steingelia and Stomacoccus were sister to the Margarodidae sensu Morrison.
Hodgson & Foldi (2005, 2006) listed this genus among the "Non Maragarodoid species".
This genus and Steingelia form the Steingeliinae. Distinguishing characters between the genera are: in adult female and larva, the number of antennal segments, and (in adult male) the number of eye facets.
Gavrilov-Zimin, 2018, resurrected the tribe Steingeliini to place the genus Stomacoccus in relation to other genera that he felt belonged in a subfamily of Xylococcinae (Araucaricoccus, Conifericoccus, Steingelia, and Stomacoccus)
- General Remarks: Definition and characters by Ferris (1917) and by Morrison (1928).
