Remarks
- Systematics: In Williams (1982a) it was noted that it was probable that all previous records of P. iceryi from the New World were based on misidentifications and should be P. elongata.
- Structure: See colour photograph in Hamon & Williams (1984). Adult female extremely elongate or elliptical; marginal setae with sharply or bluntly pointed apices; submarginal area of head and thorax with numerous, widespread ventral tubular ducts; multilocular pores present on thorax between mesothoracic and metathoracic coxa; ventral tubular ducts absent medially from thorax. (Caballero, et al., 2017) Newstead noted in his original description that there are two longitudinal lines of bright crimson on the dorsum, and these have given the species the name of red-striped sugar-cane scale.
- Economic Importance: Pulvinaria elongata has been reported as a minor pest of sugarcane except when in a mutualistic association with Nylanderia fulva (Mayr) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), when it causes more serious damage (Caballero, et al., 2017).
- General Remarks: Good description and illustration of adult female by Mamet (1958), De Lotto (1966a) (as Pulvinaria longisqua, Hamon & Williams (1984) and by Williams & Watson (1990).
