Remarks
- Systematics: Subfamily DIASPIDINAE Tribe DIASPIDINI INCERTAE SEDIS (Normark, et al., 2019)
Prodiaspis differs from Xanthophthalma in having numerous tubular ducts on both dorsal and ventral sides of abdominal segments, in having a valve-like sac at the aperture of the vulva, in the first instar larva having 6-segmented and non annulate antenna and having a trilocular disc pore accompanying the anterior spiracle (Young & Wang, 1984). Danzig (1993) considers Circodiaspis to be a junior synonym of Adiscodiaspis. Takagi et al. (1997) provide a taxonomic discussion of Prodiaspis and related genera.
- Structure: Adult female pyriform or oval; prosoma sclerotized or membranous at maturity. Lobes and plates absent. Pygidium with simplified ornamentation. Pygidial margin membranous (Prodiaspis tamaricicola) or thickened (P. ericicola). Marginal setae on pygidium short. Dorsal and ventral ducts same size and length, each duct short, slender and 2-barred, present on dorsum of each pygidial and prepygidial segment in 3 groups, marginal, submarginal and submedian. Perivulvar pores present or absent. (Moghaddam & Watson, 2021)
