Remarks
- Systematics: Tang & Hao (1995) reported P. ussuriensis Borchsenius as a new record for China, and the specimens are preserved in Shanxi Agricultural University (SAUC). After examining these slide-mounted specimens, we noticed that they represent a species that is new to science. The adult female of P. neimonggolensis differs from that of P. ussuriensis by having (contrasting character states in P. ussuriensis in parentheses): (i) sclerotized plate around eyespot smooth (with a distinct reticulated pattern); (ii) abdominal spiracles numbering 2 pairs on abdominal segments I and II (apparently absent); (iii) long hair-like setae each 25–70 μm long (each 100–120 μm long); (iv) with 2 or 3 perispiracular sensilla laterad to each thoracic peritreme, situated close to the peritreme margin (with perispiracular sensilla in a group of 3–6, slightly removed from lateral of margin of each peritreme); and (v) sensillum placodeum on segment IV containing 6–9 sensilla (containing 5 or 6 sensilla) (Zheng & Wu, 2024).
- Structure: Body ovoid, 3.4–4.9 mm long and 2.8–3.3 mm wide; derm membranous. Antennae 7 segmented, each 248–320 μm long in total, more-or-less conical; segments I to subapical segment subequal in length, each 25–40 μm long; segment II broadest, 126–158 µm wide; subapical segment narrowest, 73–90 μm wide. Apical segment with apex rounded, with 5 or 6 flagellate setae and 10–15 sensory setae, sensory organs not observed. Sensillum placodeum on segment IV elongate, containing 6–9 sensilla. Eyespot 98–103 µm wide, slightly convex, enclosed asymmetrically by sclerotized plate with a smooth texture. Mouthparts absent, but derm usually folded at appropriate location. Covered with long hair-like setae, small setae, multilocular disc-pores and, on one specimen, with a few microducts. (Zheng & Wu, 2024).
- General Remarks: See Zheng & Wu (2024) for description and illustration of adult female.
