Remarks
- Systematics: Subfamily ASPIDIOTINAE Tribe LEUCASPIDINI (Normark, et al., 2019)
Mongrovaspis is closely related to Leucaspis. Adult female cryptogynous, elongate elliptic, broadest about middle. Neither lobes nor plates on pygidial margin, which is however produced into at least 4 long, ensifom caudal processes, about as long as their base is distant from anus (Bodenheimer, 1951). Althought the second-instar female exuvial casts of Thysanaspis, Mongrovaspis, and Ligaspis are not similar in external appearance, all of them are strongly sclerotized throughout, thus completely enclosing the body of the adult female (Takagi, 2002). Takagi (2002) further indicates "Green (1934) supposed Fiorinia pygosema Green and Laing (1923) to be closely related to Leucaspis quadrispinosa, and Bodenheimer followed him in referring it to Mongrovaspis. I agree with Balachowsky that it should be excluded from Mongrovaspis."
Mongrovaspis quadrispinosa whose known distribution at present extends from Egypt to the
Philippines, may represent the Old World sister-lineage of T. dennorum; were this shown to be the case, the genera Mongrovaspis and Thysanaspis should be synonymized, with Mongrovaspis as the senior synonym. (Normark, et al., 2019)
- Structure: Adult female elongate elliptical, broadest at middle of body. Pygidial margin without either lobes or plates, which is, however, produced into at least 4 long, caudal processes, each about as long as the distance between their bases and the anus. (Moghaddam & Watson, 2021)
