Marsipococcus Cockerell & Bueker 1930: 7. Type species: Lecanium marsupiale Green by monotypy . accepted valid name

Systematics: Subfamily: Coccinae. Tribe: Paralecaniini. In 2017, Marsipocuccus contained four species: M. marsupialisfrom Sri Lanka, M. ulubendulensis (Lagowska & Martin) from Malaysia and M. durbanensis (Brain) and M. proteae (Brain) from South Africa. In addition, Tang (1991) transferred Neoplatylecanium tripartitum (Green) and Ceronema iceryoides (Green), both from Sri Lanka, to Marsipococcus. However, this was not accepted by Hodgson (in Ben-Dov et al. 1997), who examined the studied type material of both species and considered that neither belonged to Marsipococcus and that both species should be retained in their respective original genera.
Structure: Body of adult female rather flat, oval and often somewhat pointed at both ends; stigmatic clefts each quite deep, with a sclerotised inner margin and only two stigmatic spines; margins of anal cleft closely adpressed. Dorsal derm becoming mildly sclerotised at maturity but with a strong sclerotisation around anterior margins of anal plates. Eyespots removed from margin, located dorsad to each scape. Dorsal setae finely spinose or setose. (Lagowska et al., 2017)
