Remarks
- Systematics: Heteromargarodes differs from other genera of the Margarodidae with the following combination on characters: bifurcated setae absent on legs (vs. present), compound eyes with large ommatidia and almost forming sclerites surrounding the head (vs. definite lateral compound eyes), prothoracic legs significantly shorter than mesothoracic legs (vs. not significantly shorter). (Vea & Grimaldi, 2015)
Gavrilov-Zimin, 2018, redefined the tribe Margarodini within the family Margarodidae to include the tribes of Dimargarodini, Porphyrophorini, Eumargarodini, Neomargarodini, Tremitoccoccini, Eurhizococcini and Margarodesiini. He did so to place the genus Heteromargarodes in relation to other genera that he felt belonged in a subfamily of Margardinae (Dimargarodes, Eumargarodes, Heteromargarodes, Margarodes, Margarodesia, Neomargarodes, Porphyrophora and Termitococcus)
- General Remarks: Definition and characters by Jakubski (1965), Foldi (2005a) and by Unruh & Gullan (2007).
