accepted valid name
Remarks
- Systematics: Subfamily DIASPIDINAE Tribe DIASPIDINI Subtribe FIORINIINA (Normark, et al., 2019)
Formosaspis differs from Protodiaspis in possessing a well-developed scale cover and from Chionaspis and Leucaspis in the characters of the pygidium (Takahashi, 1932). The genus is very
similar to Protodiaspis Cockerell 1898 in the morphology of the pygidial margin, but adult females of Formosaspis possess a well-developed puparium enclosing the insect that is lacking in Protodiaspis. (Jian, et al., 2023)
- Structure: Adult female pupillarial (living inside second-instar exuviae). Female scale cover mainly formed by second-instar exuviae, narrowly oval, with first-instar exuviae located at anterior end. Male scale cover narrow, long and coated with white wax, with sides almost parallel; first-instar exuviae located at anterior end. Slide-mounted adult female. Body elongate oval but often with mesothorax slightly expanded; segmentation obscure and margins smooth, without distinct lateral lateral lobes; derm membranous except on dorsum of pygidium.
Antennae each with 1 robust seta. Pygidium round, small. Pygidial lobes usually numbering 1 or 2 pairs, median lobes (L1) usually long and narrowly triangular. Dorsal ducts very small, confined to submarginal zone. Anal opening circular, situated near base of pygidium. Anterior spiracles usually associated with perispiracular discpores. Perivulvar pores present in 5 groups. (Jian, et al., 2023)
