Keys
Remarks
- Systematics: Live specimens of Cerradococcus gillianwatsonae could be confused with species of Milviscutulus Williams & Watson, 1990 and Protopulvinaria Cockerell, 1894, because of their pyriform body shape and the translucency of the body in young specimens. Slide-mounted specimens of C. gillianwatsonae may also appear similar to Hamonicoccus alayoi Mestre-Novoa & Kondo, 2018, and to species of Mesolecanium. (Kondo et al., 2026)
- Structure: In life: Body broadly oval to pyriform, flat or slightly convex. Younger female specimens translucent except for middle areas of dorsum, and body yellowish; becoming brownish with age, particularly in the mid-dorsal region and margins. Some adult female specimens with a few short submarginal threads of white wax on thorax and abdomen. Anal plates brownish, with area around anterior lateral margins of plates often reddish-brown. Spiracular furrows visible through derm, containing white wax secreted from spiracular pores. Body covered by a thin layer of transparent wax. (Kondo et al., 2026) Slide-mounted specimens: Body oval to broadly oval, 4.3–5.0 mm long, 3.0–3.8 mm wide at widest point. Anal cleft from body apex to anal plates 1.02–1.16 mm long; anal plates located at about 1/4 of body length from posterior margin. (Kondo et al., 2026)
- Biology: Some specimens were observed being tended by little fire ants, Wasmannia auropunctata (Kondo et al., 2026).
- General Remarks: Description, illustration, and color photographs by Kondo et al. (2026).
