Remarks
- Systematics: Aulacaspis multispinatais distinguished from all other Aulacaspis species by having L3 without an outer lobule; L4 with the inner lobule formed of a prominent protrusion; and numerous marginal gland spines on the pygidium. The new species is very similar to A. elaeagni (Green, 1896), with which it shares a lack of pores near the posterior spiracle; prosoma narrowing anteriorly (not quadrate); without spurs on abdominal segments IV and V; and inner lobule of L2 widest near apex. However, it can be distinguished by the following characteristics (character states of A. elaeagni in brackets): (i) pygidium with 4 pairs of lobes (with 3 pairs); (ii) L3 without outer lobule (L3 bilobulate); (iii) mesothorax slightly broader than prothorax (mesothorax much broader than prothorax); and (iv) abd. VI occasionally with 1 submedian dorsal duct on each side (without submedian dorsal ducts). (Jian & Xing, 2024)
- Structure: Adult female scale cover white, subcircular, about 1.9‒2.3 mm in diameter, thin and transparent (body color of adult female visible through cover); exuviae located at anterior end, yellowish. Exposed body of adult female yellow, rear end brown. Scale cover of immature male white, elongate, 1.4–1.7 mm long and about 0.3 mm wide, with exuviae located at anterior end, light brown. (Jian & Xing, 2024) Slide-mounted adulr famale body 1294–1577 (1577) μm long, 775–837 (776) μm wide; prosoma swollen, semicircular, slightly broader than postsoma, margin tending to be ovate, with prosomatic tubercles indiscernible; cephalothorax and mesothorax with or without marked segmentation; metathorax slightly broader than abd. I; abd. II with lateral margins protruding, wider than abd. I, almost as wide as metathorax; pygidial margin slightly rounded. Anal opening situated at center of pygidium. (Jian & Xing, 2024)
