Remarks
- Systematics: Lectotype designated in Wei, et al. (2026): 1 adult female, “Australia, on Daviesia corymbosa. Sent by Mr. French from Melbourne, and by Mr. Tepper from Adelaide” (Maskell 1892: 15). Handwritten slide label: “Chionaspis / nitida / adult female / (Australia) / 1891 W.M.M.” Barcode label: NZAC02054140 (ANIC). Paralectotypes, all with same data as lectotype: 2 adult females on 1 slide, “Chionaspis / nitida / Mask. / Australia / Mask. Coll. No. 208” (USNM);
Albastaspis nitida can be distinguished from other species of Albastaspis by the absence of L2 and the presence of a row of dorsal submarginal macroducts on abdominal segment VI. (Wei, Normark & Normark, 2026)
- Structure: Female scale silvery-white and shining, elongate, smooth, slightly convex, sides somewhat parallel. Exuviae terminal, larval exuviae bright yellow, 2nd exuviae greyish. Male scale silvery white, elongate, parallel sided, slightly convex, with an inconspicuous longitudinal median groove. Exuviae bright yellow. Adult female golden brown, elongate, abdomen ending in 2 small floriated lobes with a median depression, margin crenulated, with a few small spines (Maskell, 1892). Froggatt (1914) describes the male scale as much smaller than that of female, with exuviae reddish brown. Redescription in Wei, Normark & Normark: Adult female not pupillarial. Scale cover “silvery-white and shining, elongated, smooth, slightly convex, the sides … somewhat parallel”, exuviae terminal, first exuviae bright yellow, second exuviae greyish (Maskell 1892: 15). Slide-mounted adult female (n = 9) 1150–1410 μm long, 700–860 μm wide, broadest at metathorax and abdominal segment I. Body outline elongate-oval, derm membranous except for pygidium. (Wei, Normark & Normark, 2026)
