Syntypes, female, Type depository: Washington: United States National Entomological Collection, U.S. National Museum of Natural History, District of Columbia, USA; accepted valid name Notes: The single slide in the USNM is labeled "Eriococcus/ elegans/ Full./ co-type/ W. Australia/ Fuller, col." Although this does not completely agree with the type data in Fuller (1897b) we assume that this material is syntypic.

- Structure: Adult female is reddish-brown and covered by a secretion of several white filaments which are arranged in 3 distinct rows of curling pyramidal tufts, though this secretion cannot be regarded as a true sac (Fuller, 1899).
